Fun in the sun!

Jack was traumatized by swim lessons last year, so wasn't thrilled for our first venture out this year. He ended up having a great time, followed by golf with his daddy.

Jack Day likes some heavily applied sunscreen - and Hot Wheels sunglasses. Tres chic!

Smell the world.

Memorial Day wknd started with Jack and me getting in the car (in our jammies, I might add) going to to a Chik Fil A drive through to get Jack's fave - a chicken biscuit. He's a southern boy, what can I say.

But first, he needed to go outside to "smell the world". After a big rain the Friday night, the world smelled pretty good to him - and me. Have to thank sweet Jack for slowing things down.

On the topic of nature and such, check out how our garden grows.

Earthbox going nuts! Thanks, Grandpa Rob.

Crazy big tomato plant with one green tomato so far.

Green bean plant, basil in the little plant in the forefront.

Lovely purple hydrangeas! Can't believe these came from our yard. They were royal blue last year, couldn't wait to see what color they'd be their 2nd year. They are HUGE!

Hensidethebeltline, the Tour of Combs

We went to a tour of chicken coops at private residences on Saturday. Who knew people are keeping chickens in our neighborhood! Really cool setups and very artsy coops. John and I sort of wanted chickens, but realized we probably aren't chicken people. Too much work. Seems like the real work is protecting them from predators - raccoons, owls, hawks, fox, you name it.

Surprisingly, they weren't smelly or noisy. I guess a rooster brings the noise.

Just something interesting to pass a Saturday afternoon!

Spoiling my tike

Picked Jack up Friday after school and immediately went to the cupcake shop. Check out the delicious chocolate cupcake with a huge pile of frosting!

Next, art fair in lovely downtown Raleigh and a cherry snow cone. Hey, you're only a kid once!

Strawberry picking

Jack and I went with friends, Tory and Anda, to a farm in Johnston County today. You van get out to some real country parts pretty quick around here, only took half hour.

Some not quite ripe enough to eat. Jack thought all strawberries deserved a chance to get in the bucket.

Beautiful farm w/ pond stocked with catfish. We didn't bring a pole.
